How to Choose a Christian Daycare

Start with the licence. Every province and territory licenses childcare, sets ratios and inspects centres, and a current licence is the single most important thing to confirm — directly with your provincial or territorial child-care authority, not with a directory.

Once you have done that, the questions that separate one centre from another are practical:

What ages, what hours? Infant, toddler and preschool rooms often have very different availability.

Who is in the room? Ask about educators’ qualifications, staff turnover, and the child-to-staff ratio in your child’s room.

How long is the waitlist, and is there a fee to join it?

What does it cost? Many families pay reduced fees under Canada-wide early learning and child care (CWELCC) or a provincial subsidy. Ask what the current fee is after those reductions.

How is the Christian part of the day expressed? Songs, a short prayer at snack, a values framework — it varies widely between centres, and it is fair to ask exactly what it looks like.

Then visit. Nothing you read online tells you what a room feels like at 9 a.m.

What to Expect from a Christian Daycare

A licensed Christian daycare runs on the same regulated foundation as any other licensed centre in Canada: an approved early-learning program, qualified educators, mandated ratios, and provincial inspection. Most are play-based, grouped by age from infant through preschool.

What the Christian element looks like differs by centre. Some are Christian in ownership and values without much visible practice; others build in songs, simple prayers, or a character-and-values curriculum. Many are run by churches, ministries or Christian schools. Ask each centre to describe its own day rather than assuming.

Christian Daycare vs. Christian Preschool

The two blur together, and Google blurs them too. In practice, a daycare is licensed childcare built around full working days, covering infants through preschool age. A preschool is usually part-day, focused on school readiness for the year or two before kindergarten, and may not offer the hours a working parent needs.

If you need coverage from morning to evening, search daycare or childcare. If you want a few structured mornings a week, search preschool.

How 7 Locals Verifies Listings

Every listing here is checked by a person before it appears. We confirm the business is real: locally owned, operating in Canada, reachable at the details shown, and currently trading. Where a centre tells us it is Christian-owned, we take the owner at their word.

Verification is not a licence check, not a safety inspection, and not an endorsement. We have not visited the premises, reviewed staffing, or assessed care. Confirm the centre's current licence with your provincial or territorial child-care authority, and visit in person before you enrol.
