Terms of service
Effective August 29, 2026 · Seven Locals
This summary is for orientation only. The sections below are the policy.
1. About These Terms
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern your use of 7 Locals, the directory available at sevenlocals.ca (the “Platform”).
The Platform is operated by Seven Locals(“we”, “us”, “our”). You can reach us at hello@sevenlocals.ca.
By using the Platform, browsing listings, creating an account, submitting a business, or claiming a listing, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.
These Terms work together with our Privacy Policy and our verification standard, both of which are part of this agreement.
2. What 7 Locals Is
7 Locals is a directory. We publish information about local businesses in Canada so that people can find and contact them.
We are not a party to anything that happens next. We do not provide, sell, broker, guarantee, insure, or supervise the goods and services offered by listed businesses. Any agreement you reach with a business you find here is between you and that business alone.
3. Who Can Be Listed
A business may be listed if it is:
- Locally owned and operating in Canada,
- Currently trading and reachable at the contact details shown, and
- Christian-owned, meaning the owner identifies as a Christian.
We take the owner at their word on the third point. We do not test anyone's beliefs, ask for proof of faith, ask about denomination or church, or decide who counts as Christian. That claim belongs to the business and it is theirs to stand behind. Making that claim falsely is a breach of these Terms.
We may decline or remove any listing at our discretion, including where a business does not meet these criteria, where information cannot be confirmed, or where the listing breaches section 8.
4. Listings We Add Ourselves
Some listings are created by us rather than by the business owner. We build the directory out from businesses that publicly identify as Christian-owned, in their own website, social profile, or published materials, or through membership in a Christian business network or directory. Where neither applies, we do not say it for them.
Listings created this way:
- are clearly labelled on the profile as added by 7 Locals from public information,
- contain no owner statement, because nobody has written one,
- carry only information drawn from public sources or supplied by the business, and
- can be claimed by the owner at any time.
If you are the owner and you want the listing gone, ask us and we remove it within two business days. You do not need to give a reason, create an account, or pay anything. Email hello@sevenlocals.ca.
5. Accounts
To submit or claim a listing you need an account. You agree to give accurate information, to keep your login credentials secure, and to tell us promptly if you believe your account has been used without your permission. You are responsible for activity under your account.
You must be at least 18 years old and authorised to act for the business you register or claim.
6. Your Content
“Your Content” means anything you submit: business details, descriptions, photos, your owner statement, tags, and messages.
You keep ownership of Your Content. By submitting it, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt for formatting, publish and display it on the Platform and in materials promoting the Platform, for as long as your listing is published, plus a reasonable period afterward for backups and archives.
You confirm that you have the right to grant that licence, that Your Content is accurate, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.
We may edit Your Content for formatting, length or typographical errors. We never write, generate, or rewrite an owner statement in your voice. If you have not written one, your profile does not have one.
Owner statements are reviewed before publication against the guidelines on our verification page. A statement that does not meet them is held rather than published, and we tell you why and invite a rewrite.
7. Fees
7 Locals is free. Listing your business, appearing in search results, being contacted by a customer, and managing your own listing cost nothing.
Ranking and placement are not for sale. Nothing affects whether a business is listed, verified, re-verified, ranked, or removed except whether it meets the criteria in section 3.
If we introduce optional paid features in the future, they will never gate being listed, found, or contacted, and we will notify registered users at least 14 days before they take effect (section 16).
8. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- submit false, misleading, or deliberately incomplete information, or claim a business you are not authorised to act for,
- submit content that disparages competitors, other faiths, denominations, or any group, or that denigrates people,
- make medical, legal, financial, or clinical claims, including promises of outcomes, cures, results or returns,
- make guarantees or superlatives you cannot support,
- use the Platform to send spam, harvest contact details, or contact listed businesses for bulk marketing,
- scrape, crawl, copy, or republish the directory or any substantial part of it, by any automated means, without our written permission,
- attempt to interfere with, probe, or gain unauthorised access to the Platform or its infrastructure, or
- use the Platform for any unlawful purpose.
The contact function exists so that customers can reach businesses. Using it for solicitation is a breach of these Terms.
9. Verification, and What It Does Not Mean
We check that a business is real before it appears, and we re-check at least every twelve months. The badge shows the month and year of the last successful check.
Verification is a point in time, not a guarantee. It is not a licence check, an inspection, an endorsement, an assessment of quality, competence or qualifications, and it is not a faith audit. The full standard is published on our verification page and forms part of these Terms.
Where a licence or registration matters to you, confirm it yourself, directly with the relevant regulator. This applies particularly to regulated services such as child care, counselling, health care, legal and financial services.
10. Removal, Suspension and Termination
You can leave at any time. Ask us to remove your listing and we do so within two business days. Corrections and removal are always free.
We may suspend or remove a listing, or an account, where:
- the business no longer meets the criteria in section 3,
- information cannot be confirmed or has stopped being accurate,
- the business has closed, been sold, or rebranded,
- these Terms have been breached, or
- we are required to by law.
Where we remove a listing on our own initiative, we tell the owner which criterion was not met and what evidence would settle it. Send that evidence and we re-check within five business days.
Sections 6, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 17 survive termination.
11. Our Content and Intellectual Property
The Platform itself, including its design, code, text, layout, logos and the compiled directory as a whole, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by Canadian and international intellectual property law. Nothing in these Terms transfers any of it to you.
The 7 Locals and Seven Locals names and logos may not be used without our written permission.
12. Third-Party Content and Links
Profiles link to a business's own website. We do not control that site and we are not responsible for its content or accuracy. 7 Locals does not host reviews or ratings of any kind.
13. Disclaimers
The Platform is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Platform will be uninterrupted, error free, or secure, or that listing information is complete, accurate or current at any given moment.
We make no warranty about any listed business, including its quality, safety, legality, licensing, insurance, qualifications, or the character or conduct of any owner or employee.
Nothing in these Terms limits any right you have under applicable consumer protection law that cannot be limited by agreement.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, business or goodwill, arising from your use of the Platform, whether or not we were advised such damages were possible.
Our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to the Platform or these Terms is limited to fifty Canadian dollars ($50 CAD).
We are not liable for any dealing between you and a listed business.
15. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, demand, loss or expense, including reasonable legal fees, arising from Your Content, your use of the Platform, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.
16. Changes
To the Platform. We may add, change or discontinue features at any time.
To these Terms. We may update these Terms. When we do, we update the “Last Updated” date above. Where changes are material, we notify registered users by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the Platform after that date means you accept the revised Terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the Platform and ask us to remove your listing.
17. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict of laws rules. The courts of Alberta have jurisdiction, and you consent to their jurisdiction, subject to any right you have under consumer protection law to bring a claim where you live.
Talk to us first. Most problems are settled by email in a day or two. Write to hello@sevenlocals.ca before starting a formal proceeding and we will make a genuine effort to resolve it.
18. General
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the verification standard, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Platform. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them to a successor of our business.
